Walking with Wagner | Lohengrin’s Departure at Grant’s Tomb (Riverside Park NYC Walk)
Walk north along Riverside Park toward one of New York’s most monumental and contemplative spaces, Grant’s Tomb, accompanied by Lohengrin’s Departure by Richard Wagner.
Where the Prelude to Lohengrin begins in suspension and ascent, the Departure moves in the opposite direction, away, dissolving what was briefly revealed. The music carries a sense of inevitability: something sacred that cannot remain. As the path unfolds along the Hudson River, the scale of the city begins to recede.
By the time Grant’s Tomb comes into view, the walk becomes less about movement and more about arrival, reflection, and distance.
This is part of the Walking with Wagner series, pairing real-world walks through New York City with the emotional architecture of Wagner’s music.
📍 Route Riverside Drive / Hudson River Greenway → Grant’s Tomb (122nd Street)
